Welcome to the Together Department of Education Arbitration blog. See below for updates about the arbitration for your wages and conditions.
Day 1 of hearings for our arbitration today! Our witnesses were all ready to go this morning. Each day this week delegates will be giving evidence in support of our claims. We were joined today by delegate Elisha and her gorgeous littlest Together-an – Elisha came along to add moral support to her colleagues giving evidence! For a reminder of what we are giving evidence about today it’s equal pay for equal work!
We are in the midst of preparations for the arbitration of your wages and conditions under the Department of Education agreement. This is our big case about your pay rise and other improvements that we are seeking to progression, classifications, workloads and hours of work.
I hope you are having a great start to Term 3.
This Term we (finally) have the hearing dates for our arbitration, which is the process we are currently in to address our claims for wages and key conditions for Education staff.
By now you have probably read the news of an in-principle agreement between the state government and the Queensland Teachers Union (QTU).
It was a hard weekend for many in the Upper Mount Gravatt State School community with classrooms destroyed by fire. The wonderful work of public servants in Infrastructure Services, Metropolitan Region and of course the school and other local schools means school is back today at UMGSS! Public Servants in DoE are truly incredible.
Your Together delegates met yesterday to work through the strategy and steps for our upcoming arbitration.
We are preparing an arbitration (like a trial) where we will challenge in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission the below-Award EB wages offer, the need for progression and reclassification for AOs, HP parity for therapists, TO translation for SOOs, allowances that need to be increased, the Regional Office review, progression for inspectors, and more!
Over the school holidays your delegates did an amazing job pulling together a full draft position (determination) from our union for the upcoming arbitration. Despite the Department trying to continue to frustrate and delay the process by a last minute application, we won that and the process will not be delayed – yay!
We then had to lodge this by Monday 15 April at 4pm with only a couple of days to find out what the Department were planning.
