Weekly Teleconference re Together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforces classification stream
I would like to invite all Together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Liaison Officers to call into regular weekly teleconferences regarding EB negotiations. The meetings will include updates from negotiations as well as time for member discussion and questions.
The topic of discussion will be the proposed new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce classification stream.
Meetings will be scheduled at 12:30pm each Wednesday through October. Please feel free to attend any or all that you are available for.

EB10 negotiations are finalising and HPDO negotiations are ongoing (through October and into November). Our Health Worker and Liaison members’ claims have been responded to in Queensland Health’s EB10 offer, by offering to set up a new classification stream for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce (Health Workers, Liaison Officers, Registered Health Practitioners) and move you from the Operational or Admin Streams into that new classification stream.
Throughout these EB negotiations members have been seeking a new stream, and that this stream should be moved to a more appropriate Agreement which has the types of conditions that could support your clinical roles. Specifically members have sought for the next HPDO agreement to contain the new classification stream (alongside current HP stream, DO stream and the new Clinical Assistant stream).
Where this stream will sit is still subject to ongoing discussion. It is yet to be confirmed if this new career structure will be negotiated immediately into the next HPDO replacement agreement, or if it will sit temporarily in your current agreement (EB10 alongside AO,OO, PO, TO streams) for transition to the following HPDO agreement.
Queensland Health have also agreed to commence a joint review where union members and QH representatives sit down to review the requirements, structure, classification and pay rates for workers in the new stream. The details of the review are also part of continued discussions.

- Review the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforces career structure within 12 months of certification.
- The Department is considering the appropriate agreement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforces and those captured by recommendations in the recent review and report. Given the timing of the published report having just been released and making significant recommendations it remains open to the employer to potentially more appropriately move workers impacted by the recommendations in this report to the HPDO certified agreement if there are further discussions in the immediate future that suggest this is appropriate and agreeable between the parties.
- Hospital Liaison Officer and Community Liaison Officer roles appear substantially the same despite differing title. Both will be captured in commitment to review the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforces career structure within 12 months of certification.
