Transport and Main Roads workers in arbitration

In a conciliation conference on 26 October 2011 the Industrial Relations Commission recommended that the wage rates for all employees to be covered by the proposed collective agreement with TMR be aligned with the rates of pay from the Core Public Agreement as of 1 August 2011, with an operative date of 1 July 2011.

The interim wage increase will apply to all employees proposed to be covered by the agreement provided they are employed as of 26 October 2011.

Employees of TMR who commenced work with TMR after 1 July 2011 will have the interim pay increase backdated to their date of commencement.

Our union sought an interim wage increase in line with the Government wages policy of 2.5%.

TMR was not prepared to make an offer to our union of an interim pay increase.

After considerable discussions Commissioner Thompson recommended that an interim pay increase be granted to employees. All parties have accepted the recommendation.

Accepting the recommendation preserves the operative date of 1 July 2011 which was a critical consideration.
