Together in Schools – SSSRW 2016

Posted on August 11, 2016

This week your Together representatives have met with the Department to progress the way that the extra $100 million for school support staff will be implemented next year.

The position put forward was developed by your union delegates who met in Brisbane last week to discuss all things review and implementation – thank you to all those delegates from across Queensland who contributed.

We hope that from next week we will have firm advice about how schools officers will be able to progress from OO2 to OO3 for 2017, how the progression for BSMs and AO2s in small schools will operate and when the new PDs will be available for administrative officers, IT staff and other occupations in schools. We know there is more to do!

We have also again reiterated the need to review the Agricultural Assistants and O&EEC models (USO, BSO and AO positions) and that this happen quickly as well.

Today we have met with members from some of these areas about progressing the review for those not covered in the May announcement.

Look out for updates in the next two weeks about how you will be able to make a change for your role and your school a reality in 2017.

Please note that the staffing calculator that has been distributed to schools for 2017 does not yet reflect the changes to be implemented following the Minister's announcement this year – so please don't be concerned if you are looking at that this week. A new calculator to assist schools with the revised model will be provided once it is ready.

School Support Staff Recognition Week is this month! Remember that School Support Staff Recognition Week is 29 August – 2 September.

We have mailed a pack to your school with posters, stickers, balloons, candles and a celebration cake recipe. Talk to your Principal about what you can do in your school to make sure you are recognised this week.

This year we have much to celebrate and we will also be asking members to undertake an important survey about your jobs and qualifications.  Look out for that coming soon and your packs in the mail!

If you don’t receive your pack this week please let us know at or give us a call on 1800 177 244.

Thank you all! Have a great week!
