Together in TAFE Update
I hope you are having a good week.
As an ex Together TAFE delegate I am happy to be working with Together TAFE members again on our campaigns.
Here is a short update about some recent happenings and a reminder about the rally in Brisbane tomorrow.
Many of you would be in touch with your local Together organiser and remember you never walk alone and if you need industrial advice or assistance remember to call our office on 1800 177 244 to speak with our experienced industrial team.
TAFE Queensland On-Line LCC
TAFE Queensland On Line (TQOL) has formed a new Local Consultative Committee (LCC) that is used to address issues specific to TQOL.
The inaugural LCC was held on Monday 12 November.
If you would like to be involved in the LCC, or contribute items to the agenda for the next meeting please let me know. Many thanks to Suz Gordon for nominating already! If you would like to join Suz please let me know.
ACTU Change the Rules Rally Tuesday 20 November
In the last month, more than 200,000 unionists have marched in cities and towns across Australia. On Tuesday it’s Brisbane's turn to rally.
The Brisbane rally will help wrap up the month of national action to highlight the growing problem of inequality, and the problem of workplace laws that are rigged against working people.
Corporate profits are up over 20% in the past 12 months, executive salaries have sky-rocketed to over $6 million on average, but wage growth is at record lows.
We need new rules to balance the power of big business to bring back the fair go for working people.
Working people are mobilising like never before. We are rallying to change the rules so that workers can win fair pay rises. Join me at the Brisbane Rally on Tuesday 20 November at 12:30pm, Emma Miller Place, Brisbane.
A new agreement next year!
Both current certified agreements that set your wages, rights, entitlements and conditions are due to expire next year – so that means it is nearly time to start negotiations for a new one! The TAFE Services Employees Agreement has a nominal expiry on 31 August 2019 and the TAFE Queensland Educators Certified Agreement 2016 has a nominal expiry date of 30 June 2019.
The first step in this process will be to survey members to identify what you would like to see change and improve to help formulate a log of claims, this will commence early in the new year.
Together would be asking for people to nominate be contacts or delegate for this process to help to gather information if you wish to participate please contact me on this address.
With new initiatives like free training at TAFE for school leavers there are likely to be even more students enrolling in TAFE next year.
What will that mean for you? How will this shape your future?
Next year also brings a federal election and we will be keeping a close eye on policy announcements that impact on TAFE funding and regulation.
Remember you can get in touch with your local organiser or with me if you have any questions or comments to share.
