We have been continuing to meet, negotiate and go through the conciliation process with the department in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. Our last Commission conference before Commissioner Black was yesterday, as well as a meeting about temporary to permanent conversion with the department earlier yesterday morning.
We have been working through all the issues and discussions have been really productive however we haven’t landed on anything final yet.
I know it is a slow process! And it is a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ meetings and Industrial Relations Commission processes happening. The Minister’s office have also been involved.
Many members have been commenting this week on the in principle settlement that has come through for Teacher Aides and School Cleaners – this is a great outcome for these workers, very well done to them, and it shows that the government is certainly able to settle a good deal!
If you have more specific questions or comments about the EB claims for our union please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
On Monday your branch conference delegates met in Brisbane and were addressed by Peter Bridgman who has been commissioned by the Premier to review the legislation governing your employment. This was a really positive address and great to hear the value Peter was placing on feedback from union delegates and the positive approach he is taking to this review. If you would like to know more about this review and how you can make an impact on our submission please get in touch.
We are making comment at the moment on several policies, including the policies governing the distribution of First Aid and medication in schools (see linked). If you would like to have your say about your experience in giving out medication or first aid at school please let me know! The meeting with the Department is next Wednesday 5 December.
End of Year and ADO
Remember that as public servants you have a ‘concessional day’ this year on the 27th of December (a day without leave debit). You may also be asked to reduce your ADO balance over the Christmas period. For public servants in schools remember the decision to roll over your ADO to next year or have it paid out is your decision. You can see the provisions in your agreement HERE. If you have questions about your ADO processes please feel free to email us for advice and support.
