Schools: Quick Union Update

Posted on May 3, 2018

Labour Day weekend is coming up! Just two sleeps to go!

Join your fellow members this weekend at your local celebration and show your support for the Wages Matter campaign and the national agenda to Change the Rules for working people.

It will be lots of fun and an important message to send! There are a lot of us and union members deserve fair wages.

This week the new Director General for the Department of Education has started. We have written to Mr Cook yesterday to seek to commence bargaining for all public servants in the Department. I look forward to meeting with him soon.

For school based members so far the major "claims" or issues that have been raised by members are summarised in this list.

Is your key issue represented?

If it isn't get in touch with the office at schools@together.org.au today.

In the next 6 months union members will negotiate the wages and working conditions that apply to school based staff for the next three years.

Right now is a great opportunity for us to make a difference to how our employment arrangements work.

At the same time our colleagues who are teacher aides and cleaners are also bargaining. That's why we have joined forces with United Voice to have Wages Matter meetings across the South East corner.

Please join your fellow union members at these important meetings:

  • Bray Park: Club Pine Rivers, Francis Rd & Sparkes Rd, Bray Park, Tuesday 5 June — 6:00pm for 6:30pm start
  • Cleveland: Redlands RSL, 8 Passage St, Cleveland, Monday 28 May — 6:00pm for 6:30pm start
  • Ipswich: Ipswich International Hotel, 43 South St, Ipswich, Thursday 7 June — 6:00pm for 6:30pm start
  • Loganholme: Fitzy's Loganholme, Bryants Rd & Pacific Hwy, Loganholme Thursday 7 June – 6:00pm for 6:30pm start

I hope you can join us at one of these events that is close to you. Members will be holding other catch up meetings and visiting schools this Term so please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like an organiser to visit.

PS: Mark your diaries for School Support Staff Recognition Week! This year we are running SSSRW in the week just before our EB expires! A great time to highlight the essential work you do. We'll send you a kit for the week starting 27 August.
