Planned reforms to Queensland's probation and parole system.

Posted on March 14, 2017

As you may be aware, the state government will be introducing reforms to the probation and parole system as a result of the Sofronoff review. The implementation of these reforms will have an impact on your working lives, so it’s important union members have a say on how the changes are rolled out to make them the best they can be.

The review recommends, amongst other initiatives, employing additional staff and strengthening the Probation and Parole Service.

Members have been raising concerns about workloads for some time now, so it’s good to see the government has acknowledged members’ concerns and included additional positions in the recommendation. Well done to members who raised these concerns and fought for these resources.

Your union is still waiting to see how these changes will affect members and their workplaces. In the meantime, it’s important to have a strong union voice during consultation and implementation of any changes, so make sure you talk to your colleagues about the review and as them to join your union.

If you would like to have your say on the Sofronoff review and how it may affect you, please email your feedback to We will de-identify your feedback, and include it in the Together feedback submission to be provided to the department for their consideration.

We will be back in touch soon when more information becomes available.
