One step closer to resolution for QBFP members
Your industrial action has successfully forced the Department to negotiate with your union and delegates about your aggregated salary and reclassification claims.
The union office received further contact about the reclassification proposals. DAF has advised that there are things that will be achievable in terms of classification and progression arrangements. They have asked for more time to consider the details of what you have asked for and to have further discussions with your union.
You can see the documents we provided the employer here: Issues Document and Renumeration Comparisons. It is not yet clear what DAF will be able to offer but it is a good sign that they are taking your claims seriously.
The Minister had discussed the potential for union members to suspend industrial action while he and the Department considers our requests and try to negotiate an outcome. This is not something Alex or members take lightly.
Yesterday delegates and members on the teleconference decided to suspend the current work bans to allow these good faith negotiations to continue in January. This means that from today you will be able to get back to work on boats protecting our waterways and fisheries resources.
Members agreed to come together again in January to assess how negotiations are going and make a decision about escalating industrial action with the introduction of new legislation starting in January.
Due to the Christmas closure and existing leave arrangements, this teleconference will be on Wednesday 23 January at 8am. The dial in details are 1800 896 323 or 3036 8888 and use the code 95792720.
I will be on leave from Friday until Tuesday 29 January 2019. Your delegates are always your first port of call but you can contact Dee Spink on firstname.lastname@example.org if any issues arise during this time. The union office will also be closed from Friday 21 December 2018 until 8:30am on Wednesday 2 January 2019.
Congratulations on all that you have achieved this year and bring on 2019! I hope you enjoy the holiday period with your loved ones and back out on the water, doing what you love, at work.
