Labour Day in Townsville

Posted on April 12, 2017

Labour Day 2017 is just a few weeks away and I just wanted to follow up on Alex’s email from last week to give you a bit more information on our Labour Day event in Townsville.

Townsville Labour Day is on Monday 1 May and celebrations will be bigger and brighter than ever this year, full of activities for union members, their families and community supporters.

Members are to assemble at Anzac Memorial Park, The Strand at 10:00am. At 10:30am sharp, the parade will leave Anzac Park and proceed along The Strand finishing at Strand Park (entering Strand Park from the southern end).

Marching bands will join the procession again this year which will enhance the colour and movement of our March on the day.

Traditional Labour Day speeches will commence around 11.30am in Strand Park. Presentations will be made to the“Best Union Contingent” and “Best Community Organisation Contingent” .

Generous sponsorship from various organisations and donations from unions will provide children’s rides, ice creams and activities, with plenty of music and entertainment for the adults. The friendly Union Tug-of-War competition will be held again and a trophy presented to the winning team.

Food and drink will be available for purchase by participating Unions through the same ticketing system used in previous years. Union Organisers will be pre-issued food and drink tickets before Labour Day, based on previous year’s ticket purchases. NO ADDITIONAL TICKETS WILL BE ISSUED ON THE DAY.

Unused tickets may be returned for refund in the week after Labour Day, as normal.
