Job security

Yesterday the Treasurer Tim Nicholls put out a press release about letting “no forced redundancies” clauses back in to agreements for workers in Ergon, Powerlink and Energex.

You can see the press release HERE.

This is the first time we have seen this position from this government since before the last state election when they promised me and all public servants there would be no forced redundancies.

I lost my job in a redundancy process and have fought on with you my union colleagues seeking to get those employment security promises back because I know first-hand what it’s like when they aren’t there.

This press statement shows me that the Treasurer is clearly starting to realise that job security matters. With an election in the wind they are wanting to minimise the damage.

So what about HPs and DOs? You provide an essential service to the Queensland community that should be secure. Your job security is just as important.

We are in a conciliation process with Government at the moment and we have asked for job security back from the start but have been told it is now against the law.

Well we know the laws can change, the current Government have changed the Industrial Relations legislation 6 times in the last 2 years.

I see this as an opportunity and I hope you do too. Come to your local HP and DO action (starting with TPCH this week) and then we will be in touch about a way to point out to the Treasurer and Health Minister that we are essential too and it is essential that you have job security back now.
