Implementing WHS risk assessment in QBFP

Posted on October 2, 2020

I’m very excited to be back working with you and all Together members across the QBFP & DAF.

Congratulations to all the members who completed the violence and aggression survey. Your action and stories have made the Department start to take your safety more seriously.

The Director-General got back to the union regarding workplace health and safety. Click here to see the letter. The letter says that QPS & the Department have reached in-principle support for the use of protective equipment that could make your job safer and that the Department is starting implementation of the recommendations in the risk assessment.

This is a good start but there is more work to do to make sure that, every day you go to work, you have everything you need to get home safe.

Your delegates want to make sure that union members at QBFP have a strong voice. This afternoon, I’ve written to Mark Doohan requesting a meeting to discuss the details of implementing the WHS risk assessment including timeframes and union consultation.

We know that we get better outcomes when workers and their unions are involved in decisions that impact them and their work. Your delegates will stay in touch with next steps over the coming week.

Thank you for everything you do! If you are working this long weekend, stay safe out on the water and on the boat ramps.
