HP: Another delay from Queensland Health on your wage increase

Posted on November 12, 2015

Recently you would remember that HP members were finally successful in achieving a 2.5% pay increase backdated to 17 October 2014 through the operation of a Health Employment Directive, a great achievement that came about because Together members stood strong to secure that outcome despite opposition from management.

However, in an utterly nonsensical move, Queensland Health management failed to include in the directive the next pay increase, due only a few weeks later on 17 October 2015, forcing HPs to wait for their pay increase yet again!

The reason for this strange behaviour offered by Queensland Health management is that they want to wait until a new HP agreement is drafted, put to ballot and certified before you receive your pay increase. This process has been delayed by the "award restoration" program since the restored HP award has not yet been finalised and a new agreement cannot be certified until that happens. This makes it likely that you will not receive your pay increase until well into next year!

This situation is ridiculous. Queensland Health has already agreed on the effective date of your increase (17 October 2015), and the amount! The Director-General has the power to provide you with that agreed increase now, just as he did earlier this year for your October 2014 increase.

We have written to Queensland Health management asking them to process your pay increase now.

We want to know what you think - how important to you is it to receive your next scheduled increase before Christmas? Email health@together.org.au.

We'll keep you up to date with the response from Queensland Health.
