Education - Hours of work and flexible work arrangements
I hope you are going well – not too many impacts from the Machinery of Government change so far!
In relation to ongoing rights at work for the Department of Education there are two ‘hot issues’ currently:
- Hours of Work
- Flexible Work Arrangements
Both of these matters have been escalated in dispute correspondence with the Director General. In relation to the flexible work arrangements and ‘COVID safe’ return to office arrangements there was a dispute conference before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.
On both of these matters the Department have now issued clarifying correspondence to better support workers' rights – thanks to the union members for standing up and speaking out about it!
On Hours of Work – Dion Coghlan – as the Assistant Director General for Human Resources – has sent this email to all managers. This importantly clarifies that the “15 minutes” rule is NOT to be used, that workers DO have the right to accrue at least one day off per month and more. Have a read!
On Flexible Work Arrangements – we have escalated many of these issues, and continue to. Every worker has a right to request a flexible work arrangement.
We are holding a meeting this Wednesday lunch time about Flexible Work Requests – particularly for ITB members – however all members are welcome to attend.
