Corrections: Update on yesterday's news about the video from Brisbane in 2013

Posted on August 31, 2016

As a follow-up to yesterday's news we are seeking an urgent meeting with the Corrections Minister, Bill Byrne.

Members have a difficult job to do in adult prisons. They are sometimes required to carry out procedures that are designed to manage dangerous behaviours and keep themselves, and prisoners, safe.

We do not support the detention of juveniles in adult prisons in Queensland. They have different behaviours, needs and requirements to adult prisoners.

We support an inquiry into the system and appropriateness of the detention of juveniles in adult prisons and we want to talk to the Minister about it directly.

What we don't support is the re-opening of previous investigations into our members who were doing their jobs professionally and in accordance with procedure.

We also don't support knee jerk reactions from politicians under pressure.

We are reiterating these comments in the media as well as directly with the government.

Here is a link to our statement from yesterday.

We will update members with more news on this as we have it.
