Corrections: union win - leave balances on the rise
Around the Christmas 2017/New Year 2018 period, Together delegates discovered that the Department wasn't applying the Directive relating to Long Service Leave (LSL) on public holidays correctly, leaving large numbers of CCOs out of pocket.
Since that time, as a union we have been raising it with the Department. In the process of doing this we discovered that they weren't applying the Recreation Leave Directive properly either!
After continuing pressure from Together delegates and the office, the Department have recently started to repay your leave in line with these directives. Many of you will notice increases in your leave balances as a result.
According to QCS, the following Centres have had their outstanding balances fixed already: BCC, Woodford, Borallon, ESB, Brisbane Women’s, Lotus Glen, Numinbah and Palen Creek.
The following Centres have yet to be paid: Townsville, Wolston (estimated date: 13 September), Capricornia and Maryborough (estimated date: 27 September).
This outcome only came about through the action of union members and never would have been resolved otherwise.
Congratulations and thank you for your support of this important entitlement. You work very hard to earn your leave. Having correct leave balances in this job is absolutely essential!
Please note: Although the Department has acknowledged the issues in relation to long service leave and recreation leave, we believe they are still not paying the Sick Leave Directive properly either. This is a matter of continuing dispute and we are hoping to have it addressed and resolved in conjunction with our upcoming arbitration.
If you have any questions about the payment of outstanding leave please get in touch with your union office.
Thank you for everything you are doing to support you and your colleagues as a union member.
