Core agreement offer: Union members say yes!

Posted on December 20, 2019

Congratulations! Together members have voted in the ballot for the Core agreement offer and it was overwhelmingly approved.

As union members you have had a say – and that demonstrated that over 95% of members supported the offer.

The results of the ballot mean that while your wages will continue to be arbitrated by the independent umpire, all staff covered by the Core agremeent will be paid the $1250 payment. This will be paid in 2020 – now that this result is known from you, we will be able to talk to government about the timing of the payment.

We have won a lot and there is still a lot more to do. In 2020 we will be focusing energy on the wages arbitration and making the best case possible for a fair wage increase and back pay to 2018. Implementing the provisions of this agreement, and the recommendations of the Bridgman and Coledrake reviews, will be important to continuing to improve the public service and to making sure that employment is more secure. Your organisers will be working with you in 2020 to secure the best possible conditions in your workplaces.

There have been thousands of union members who have contributed to this outcome but I would particularly like to thank the union delegates, your colleagues, who have tirelessly attended negotiations, volunteered to be witnesses in the Commission, run meetings, led industrial action and kept all members up to date. Their voluntary efforts above and beyond their day to day work has delivered a better workplace for everyone. Thank you.

We will have more details in the new year about the implementation of the new agreement and when the $1250 will be paid. We hope you have a safe and happy festive season and if you are taking leave, please enjoy your break!
