Blue Care/ Wesley Mission Brisbane Bargaining Update

Delegates and Officials met with management on Wed 16th Nov 2011 at Head Office to discuss the commencement of enterprise bargaining for both the Admin and the Allied Health Agreements.

As members would be aware your union, Together, has been working hard in preparation for the commencement and timely resolution of bargaining to ensure that members receive the best possible deal.

Many members and potential members completed the initial survey and then the subsequent priority document.  This activity has allowed delegates to compile both Logs of claims which are clear, concise and relevant to the membership.

These logs of claims are now ready to be presented to management.

Your union notified Blue Care and Wesley Mission Brisbane of our intent to bargain on 19th Oct.  The earliest that we were able to secure a meeting was Wed 16th Nov.

At this meeting it was agreed that for each area there will be 2 delegates released in paid time to attend the bargaining meetings.  Delegates will also be able to undertake bargaining work in paid time as long as their primary job is not affected.

Regarding the Admin staff agreement, Blue Care are proposing a merger with the Support Services Agreement.  Your union has some initial reservations about this and we will be in touch with members once we receive formal correspondence from Blue Care confirming their verbal advice of this plan.   We will be seeking members' feedback and direction in the near future.

The Admin agreement is currently a single union agreement and has provided some strong outcomes in the past for members.  If the merger is agreed to, we would be one of three unions involved and this may cause some delays and disputes.   Our next meeting for the Admin agreement is set for Dec 5th and we will need to have a firm position by this time.

Regarding the Allied Health Agreement  - management are not ready to commence bargaining and the earliest that we have been able to secure a bargaining meeting is Jan 25th 2012.

We are holding discussions with the other union involved in these negotiations in relation to the impact the recent national pay equity case will have on social workers.

Given the late start and the potential for delays in both of these agreements it is vital that the members are kept informed and are prepared to support their delegates should further delays and barriers be put in place as bargaining progresses.

Your strength comes from your ability to communicate and act in a timely fashion.  It is important for members to let their workmates know what is happening and to seek their support.
