Arbitration training day update

Posted on August 2, 2019

On Tuesday almost 40 delegates from around the state met in South Brisbane (see the photos here) in what was a very productive training session discussing the upcoming arbitration.

Discussion was had around the classification structure and what it should look like moving forward. We are drafting up a proposal regarding this to put to members for ballot in coming days.

There was also discussions about the use of force committees currently being implemented across the state. From that we have informed the department these need to be further discussed before they are implemented or we will be in dispute.

Stay tuned for further details on both of these issues.

Earlier today a Mention occurred before the Full Bench of the QIRC regarding the Arbitration. Together has lodged an application for the QIRC to rule on the legal impact of Directive 12/12 State Wage Case and Certified Agreements on the rates of pay currently being paid to Custodial staff. That matter will need to be determined as part of the process and a further Mention has been set down for 28 October to set down further dates. We anticipate hearings to start early in the new year at this stage.

In the meantime, we are continuing to press the department to have them agree to pay an interim 2.5% pay rise and will keep members updated.

QCS need to start demonstrating they “Respect the Risk” you take everyday.
