Early on the morning of 23 July 2020, your union filed an application in the Federal Court seeking declarations, back pay and penalties against Qantas for breach of the JobKeeper Minimum Payment Guarantee (s.789GDA of the Fair Work Act). We are working with the TWU and FAAA, who are also involved in the case.

Last week, the Palaszczuk government tabled proposed changes to the Public Service Act. These long-awaited changes have come from the Bridgman Review of Public Sector Administration. It’s great to see movement on these important issues for our sector.

Last week two important pieces of legislation were dealt with in Queensland Parliament. The first was the tabling of a Bill proposing significant amendments to the Public Service Act 2008, with important provisions about disciplinary processes, employment security, and other conditions. We'll be providing some more information about that soon as part of information to all members.

ASU delegates and officials met with Qantas Airports management on July 16, 2020 to finalise the consultation about how the initial stage of the Expression of Interest (EOI) process will operate in airport customer service following the announcement of the Qantas 'Next 100' recovery plan by Alan Joyce on June 26.
