Parking and Traffic: UQ

Posted by Suzi Wharton on December 18, 2014

Since July this year your Union Representatives at the University of Queensland have been at odds with UQ Management regarding the reconstituted membership makeup of the Transport And Parking Advisory Committee (TAPAC).

The Chief Operating Officer [COO] made a unilateral decision to change the membership of this committee and remove the right for the elected union representatives on the Professional Staff Consultative Committee [PSCC] to nominate a professional staff member to the Committee.

Have your say- fill in our parking and traffic survey now.

Schools Meeting update

Posted by Kate Flanders on December 17, 2014

Two important meetings happened last week and the following provides you with a short report back. To find out more please call us or email us at schools@together.org.au.

Together representatives met with Dr Anthony Lynham MP for Stafford who is also the Shadow Minister for Education; Science, IT and Innovation.

As the opposition spokesperson on Education we wanted to make sure that Dr Lynham was aware of the key staffing concerns currently being experienced by hardworking support staff in state schools.

In The Papers

Posted by Alex Scott on December 17, 2014

In 2012, Campell Newman started breaking his promises. And now, in 2014 he is lying about his record. Every time you and your colleagues speak up you are getting a reaction - some MPs went as far as saying that some of you weren't 'real people.'

Members have met MPs telling their stories about why fair pay matters and asking for their support. Members have also written letters to residents, explaining why our entire Queensland community needs a pay rise not more lies.

This week, there will be more letters hitting households in target areas.

Urgent onsite union meeting, building a better LCCH

Posted by James and the Together Health Team on December 15, 2014

It's been a hard couple of weeks for our members working at LCCH, and many of you are still working tirelessly to fix the "teething problems" from the LCCH opening.

No More Lies. No More Cuts.

Posted by Kate Flanders on December 12, 2014

No more lies. No more cuts.

Public servants and Queenslanders are not asking for much: we want the government to stop the cuts, and stop lying about the cuts.

I have spent the afternoon talking to journalists about our campaign. The government is spending up big on taxpayer-funded ads to make it look like their cuts haven't destroyed services and harmed thousands of lives.

So we are continuing to ask MPs - act now! No more lies, no more cuts.

Mark and all of us

Posted by Kate Flanders on December 12, 2014

Your campaign is working. People like you have sent an email to the Premier and local MPs in the area calling for fair pay not more lies and cuts. As part of this we gave a member, Mark, the opportunity to speak directly to residents about why fair pay matters to him.

MPs in the north seem to have taken exception to this.

Dianne and all of us

Your campaign is working. People like you have sent an email to the Premier and local MPs in the area calling for fair pay not more lies and cuts. As part of this we gave a member, Dianne, the opportunity to speak directly to residents about why fair pay matters to her.

MP for Cairns, Gavin King, seems to have taken exception to this.

Tell him to come clean on fair pay and stop the games today by signing here.

Communities: Know your rights – policies and Q&As

Posted by Together Communities Team on December 12, 2014

Your Together representatives raised some concerns about the contents, or lack thereof, of the department’s policy and Q&A documents. This was raised specifically in relation to the Hours of Work policy and Q&A, as it does not explicitly reference an employee's right to access an accrued day off per work cycle (as contained in the Queensland Public Service Award 2012).

Child Safety – Stronger Families Reforms

Posted by Together Communities Team on December 12, 2014

The implementation of the Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry reforms – now under the Stronger Families banner – continues to roll on. The practice framework is currently being developed, with workshops taking place across the state. The department is also in the process of appointing the Practice Leaders and Indigenous Practice Leaders across regions.

Communities: National Disability Insurance Scheme transition

Posted by Together Queensland on December 12, 2014

The state and federal governments are still in negotiations for the bilateral agreement, which will spell out more detail, and timeframes, for the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme. While the full agreement is expected to be ready for release early in the new year, the department anticipated a December announcement of the ‘priorities and objectives’ of the NDIS in Queensland.
