I am writing to you because your union’s delegates need your input on the way forward in negotiations on wages and conditions in the core public service.

On Tuesday 6 August Queenslanders will be gathering on the politicians’ doorstep.
At the same time as cutting services and jobs, and rewriting their industrial agreements via legislation, Queensland politicians have handed themselves a massive pay increase.
Every indication from the government is that they want to take job cuts and service cuts further, driving down wages and conditions.
Now is your chance to take action.
If you’re in Brisbane, Tuesday 6 August will be your chance to stand alongside and support your colleagues and friends outside Parliament House and get the people inside to listen.
The Brisbane rally is on Tuesday 6 August with assembly at 5:15 pm outside Parliament House (corner of Alice and George Streets). The event will start at 5:30pm and should finish soon after 6:00pm.
Let's send a strong message to this government. Go to this site to say you'll take part.
See you there!

Many of you will be aware that last week management announced further job losses and restructuring as a result of the Newman governments cuts to the Gold Coast HHS budget. Our Union opposes the cuts to jobs and health services on the Gold Coast. At the same time, while it is the intention of management to cut jobs, we've have been advocating that any job cuts be a purely voluntary process as the best option for our members. The HHS have stated that the majority of these cuts are based on expressions of interest from employees for a redundancy.

Like many of you, I was angered and disgusted to learn that Queensland’s politicians get to pay themselves big increases while denying them to public servants.

Following action by Together members last week the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) recommended that there be an extension of one week to enable employees to make a decision about WorkCover's proposal. This extension expired last Friday 12 July 2013.

What a week!
First the Newman government gave all politicians 41% pay increases, claiming they had “no choice” because the independent tribunal recommended it and the law said they had to take it.
