Orders regarding WorkCover reclassifications and redundacies

Following action by Together members last week the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) recommended that there be an extension of one week to enable employees to make a decision about WorkCover's proposal. This extension expired last Friday 12 July 2013.

First the Newman government gave all politicians 41% pay increases, claiming they had “no choice” because the independent tribunal recommended it and the law said they had to take it.

Following a QIRC hearing this afternoon into a dispute lodged by Together the following items have been recommended and will be relayed to staff by WorkCover in more detail today.


WorkCover: union members' action puts organisational restructure on hold

Following members' report-back meetings over Tuesday and Wednesday, Together sought from the employer a commitment by 12pm today that WorkCover would refrain from requesting any further decisions from staff until after the outcome of the conference/s at the Industrial Relations Commission relating to this dispute. WorkCover notified Together at 11:39 am that they were not prepared to cease processing these decisions, nor extend the process for these decisions.

The Acting Premier said these words when he was trying to justify giving himself and his political colleagues a pay increase. He is claiming that the law leaves him with no choice but to give himself, Campbell Newman, and all Queensland politicians, a payrise!

TAFE: The carrot is rotten!

There is something rotten hidden within the recent announcement from TAFE about seeking a more unified workforce. TAFE management have claimed the reason they are doing this is to unify TAFE.
