We have seen remarkable efforts to 'flatten the curve' led by the Queensland public health system. This flattening of the curve has saved tens of thousands of Queenslanders lives when compared with the initial projections and the international tragedies which we are continuing to witness. We need to continue to be vigilant in our response to the pandemic to ensure that we do not see a major loss of life or a 'second spike.'

As the health emergency recedes we are now faced with an economic crisis the likes of which we have not seen since the Great Depression almost one hundred years ago.

Labour Day is on Monday 4 May. At this time of year we're usually gearing up to attend Labour Day marches across the state from Thursday Island down to the Gold Coast and everywhere in between. We attend rallies and marches on Labour Day because we know it's an important day to celebrate the acheivements we've won as a union and to fight for the rights of workers and show our union power.

Yesterday the "Term 2 operating guidelines" were re-released by Director General Tony Cook. They have been updated to reflect the advice arising from the National Cabinet meeting held on Friday, 24 April and the updated Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) advice regarding the operations of schools during the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Australia.

Following QML's withdrawal of its unlawful request for a "Accrual Freeze" on your leave, National  management called an urgent teleconference this morning to report on the financial stresses and reduction in revenue that the SDS/Healius group is facing. SDS/Healius has proposed the following measures to cut costs without stand downs and redundancies and is seeking your input as part of your union.

At the Lifeblood enterprise bargaining negotiations, management placed an offer on the table of 1.9% per annum for 3 years and 2.2% in the 4th year payable on 1 June, each year.

On Friday last week, many Qantas employees who had been stood down were looking forward to receiving their first $1,500 JobKeeper payment.
