Child Safety reviews released today

Posted on September 7, 2017

As you may have seen, there were three interrelated reviews into Child Safety released this morning.

They are: the Blue Card systems review, the Foster Care systems review, and the 'Terms of Reference 5' review (including the KPMG report) that looked into Child Safety's capacity and resourcing issues.

While we are still working through the detail, and what it means for members, it appears that a number of key issues that delegates and members raised through these review consultations (and also with the department) have been acknowledged and solutions recommended: for instance, more staff within CSSCs, more administration support, and streamlining the court process.

There are a number of recommendations that will need further unpacking to fully understand: for instance, 'streamlining' central office and governance resources, a Regional Funding Allocation model, and further collaboration between Child Safety and NGOs.

We have also contacted the Director-General to set up an urgent briefing on these reports and what they will mean for you as workers. Once we know more, we will be back in touch.

Also, earlier this week, there was once again a media and political focus on Child Safety. As always, please remember – as union members you never walk alone. If you need to discuss anything, or have any questions about your workplace rights, please contact your local delegate, organiser or our industrial officers on 1800 177 244.

Thank you for the work you do.
