Quick update: Meeting with Minister Flegg

Posted August 16, 2012 by Alex Scott

On Tuesday Together delegates as well as representatives from other unions -  United Voice, CFMEU, ETU, APSMEA, the Plumbers Union, and the AMWU - met with Minister Flegg.

At the meeting we were advised that Cabinet has authorised a merger of QBuild and Project Services. There was no detail about the numbers of jobs that would be lost. The Minister indicated that the figures would be dependent on the capital works budget and that final numbers may be known closer to the budget.

At the meeting the Director General also mentioned plans for the Communities - Property Portfolio (CPP) division to be split and the Housing Services strategic portfolio management to change its reporting arrangements but again there was very little detail.

In the meantime members are fighting to save every job they can. If you haven't already, you can contact your local MP to talk about the damage these cuts are doing and the value of the services you provide. You can use this kit to help you in talking to your MP.
