Quick SOOs update!
We have been asking for some time for an updated guide regarding progression to OO4 for SOOs from the Department.
This week we have been sent the attached document – which we can comment on and then have released.
As you would recall we have previously provided a guide to writing a business case for union members (email us if you want that again), however members were receiving spurious reasons for knock backs from “schools can only have one OO4 position” – (wrong!) to “schools are not entitled to a OO4 position under the model” – (also wrong!). This new guide asks for written reasons to be provided and we can use those and new provisions in legislation to challenge those decisions.
We are continuing to ask for better resourcing and looking at alternative classification levels. More on that soon!
One further note on Workplace Reform – if your school is seeking to ‘trade away’ a SOO position for another role please get in touch with us ASAP and do not agree to this reform or sign paperwork to that effect. As a union we have a rule against supporting those reforms as it undermines the value of the SOO role.
