Queensland's children can't wait
A couple of weeks ago, members were asked if you supported a campaign to change the funding model for Child Safety.
The response was clear, and that’s why today we are launching a petition to the Premier – because Queensland’s children can’t wait.
We have a great opportunity right now – the Premier will be considering the outcomes of the QFCC’s Blue Card and Foster Care Systems Review, which included looking at pressure points and resourcing issues for Child Safety. There will be recommendations that the Premier needs to consider, and hopefully that will include extra resources, but Child Safety needs something more than that. It needs a fundamental change to the way funding is allocated. It needs to be able to match the need of the children and families you work with.
No doubt, this is a big ask – and it will make a big change.
It’s important that while the Premier is considering this review and it’s outcomes she hears directly from you, Child Safety staff. That is why we need as many Child Safety workers across the state getting active, being union, and signing the petition.
Forward this email on to a co-worker so they can find out what union members are doing and how to get involved.
If you’d like a copy of the petition to print out to ask your co-workers to sign, respond to this email and we can send it to you.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me or call the union office on 1800 177 244.
Thank you for the work that you do. Let’s make it easier for you to do it!

PS - We hope you weren’t adversely affected by last week’s weather events – and for all of our Rockhampton and surrounds members, please stay safe over the next couple of days. Thanks to those members who are assisting with Community Recovery efforts as well. If you need any industrial advice about leave entitlements, etc. please contact us on 1800 177 244.
