Labour Day in Brisbane
Brisbane’s Labour Day and Family Fun Day is on Monday 1 May.
Labour Day is a great family day to celebrate being union and enjoy the company of your fellow Together members and our families, I hope you can come along and join us!
Members will meet on Wharf Street at around 9:30am (staff will be there early getting all our gear ready so come earlier if you like). Here you will receive a Together shirt and hats, organise our flags to proudly wave and we will get ready to take our place in the march as a union! We are also having bubbles this year for the kids.
Our march will start on the corner of Wharf and Turbot Streets at 10am and is around 2km long from start to finish. The march usually takes about 45 - 1 hour minutes to complete, depending on the number of people marching. Make sure you bring your singing and cheering voices! (and a water bottle!)
We will then march to the RNA Showgrounds where the Family Fun Day part of Labour day is held. If you are participating in the march, Together marshals will direct you to the Together tent once we arrive at the Showgrounds. For those not participating in the march, the best street access for the festival is on O’Connell Terrace.
Your union will have free BBQ and drinks at the Together tent. Members are also required to be wearing wristbands before being served alcohol, so please seek them out at the Together tent. As well as beer and wine there are soft drinks and some juice poppers and of course water! On the food front it is a BBQ and we have steak, sausages and also vegetarian options.
At the RNA there are lots of kids rides and other activities, bands playing and the Union Choir sings!
Let’s make Labour Day 2017 our biggest yet – come along and enjoy being proud to be Union!
