It's Women's Week!
This week we will mark International Women's Day on Thursday 8 March.
As a union with majority women members we know that there is still much to be done to make sure that gender equity is achieved at work and in retirement for working women.
Last year we worked with Per Capita to produce the "Not So Super" report on superannuation outcomes for working women and in 2018 we are recommitting to seeing the recommendations from this report implemented.
We are also pursuing the gender pay equity agenda with the Queensland government and with all employers.
The gender pay gap is real and will not go away unless we take action to make sure it does.
This week I hope many of you are able to celebrate International Women's Day and use every opportunity to work towards equality at work and in our society.
We make a big difference when we act together to address discrimination and injustice.
There will be many events held around the state this week to celebrate International Women's Day and gender equality! Here's a statewide list of activities and events from the Queensland Department of Communities.
I invite all members, wherever you are to help celebrate Women's Week!
In particular for Brisbane members:
- International Women’s Day Rally and March – 'Leave No Woman Behind' - at 1:00pm on Saturday 10 March at Emma Miller Place - come and march with Together members!
- APHEDA (Union Aid Abroad) IWD fundraiser at 5:30pm on 8 March at CEPU Building, 41 Peel St, South Brisbane. Here is a flyer for that event.
Together, we can make things fairer in our workplaces and communities.
