It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas… Everywhere you go….(well not quite), however it’s at this time of year when the Christmas holiday planning starts.
Queensland Health has just released the Christmas Closure policy for this year, you can view a copy of the policy here and guidelines. This is consistent with the Public Service Industrial Relations Circular which you can view here.
Queensland Health DDG Susan Middleditch has said that, as the compulsory closure period is from 25 December 2015 to 1 January 2016, which is Friday to Friday, she would not expect many longer closure periods than this designated time.
In some workplaces teams may decide to operate with reduced activity before and after the compulsory closure period. Such a move may be welcomed by staff in those teams provided it takes into account team members leave and family plans.
However, if your area is proposing a closure longer than the compulsory Christmas closure period stated in Queensland Health’s policy and you do not have sufficient leave accrued, or you do not wish to access leave, alternative meaningful work needs to be offered to you for this extension beyond the Compulsory Christmas closure period.
If you require more information, re-read the policy, talk to your delegate, organiser or call 1800 177 244.
Remember – the best way that you can maintain decent working conditions and quality services for Queenslanders is by being a strong union.
