Great news for Sunshine Coast Pathology
The long awaited announcement has finally come for scientists, administration officers, laboratory assistants, phlebotomists, medical officers and bio technicians and all of us: HSQ services at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital will be provided by Queensland Health, and not outsourced to a private provider.
Confirmation of the Health Minister's announcement took place last week.
Members have been concerned about the impact outsourcing would have had on the provision of care for the community and on the workforce. These concerns were real and the delegations, campaigning and arguments made by you as Together members and delegates have made a big difference.
This is a triumph for members and the Sunshine Coast community!
We have been celebrating the new government's positive action on job security, consultation about change at work and a right to have a say about rosters to name a few positive changes. These things have only been restored due to members being active and campaigning over the last three years.
Effective public healthcare should serve all Queenslanders first and foremost, which is why this announcement is such a win for the Sunshine Coast community and Together members.
This is not the end however, as we now need to find out exactly what the services will look like at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and how this may impact on Caloundra and Nambour laboratories.
We need to have ongoing consultation and input to any changes with HSQ management about the opening of the new facility.
