DERM: Have your say!

Posted March 12, 2012 by Vivienne Doogan

One of the great things about being a Together union member is that every three years you get to have a say about your working conditions.

How have things been going in your workplace? Flat-out? Training? Accrued time working well?

Every 3 years we ask these questions across every government agency in order to check-in on what the key issues are to negotiate. These negotiations will come up with our collective agreement that governs your wages and conditions for the next 3 years.

Your current collective agreement or 'EB' expires on the 31st of July this year.

Your DERM delegate team have already undertaken some initial survey work late last year and earlier this year with emails and meetings and are in the process of collating your feedback- please go to  T:\Unions\DERM EB log of claims 2.doc for the latest update of collated feedback via your DERM Delegate Team.

Those issues, along with those raised in phone surveys of members and other meetings, have been considered to come up with the 'points of concern' that are common issues across all government departments or agencies.

Here are some of the things that many members have been talking about as the key issues for the sector-wide part of the negotiations:

You can have your say on these ideas and add some more by filling in this survey:
http://www.together.org.au/together-bargaining/together-bargaining-survey-2012/

This survey is being sent to members in all agencies, so it will give the union a way to measure how important each issue is in each agency. Have a look at the summaries before doing the survey as it will give you a better idea of what the questions mean.

We know there may also be other issues you want to raise, including issues that are more specific to your occupation, Department or work area- add those to the general comments section. You may have already sent these to your delegates - if so, you don't need to do that again. Your DERM State Council Delegates will be 'championing' these issues, and any others identified in the responses to this survey as 'significant' to many DERM members, in the agency-specific part of the negotiations on the new EB.

We'll be sending more emails about the upcoming bargaining process over the following weeks - please fill in your surveys before Wednesday the 21st of March.
