Absolutely no more than 3% - Health. Bans must stop

This afternoon in the Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) Queensland Health and government representatives said that "there is no basis whatsoever that a wage increase greater than 3% (2.5% plus 0.5% of cashable savings) will be offered. Under no circumstances is there any capacity under the Queensland Government wages policy to move beyond 3% - irrespective of cashable savings found."


Police staff cuts a tragedy for Queensland

The Government, without consultation, has announced a policy to cut 250 police staff positions in order to fund the recent pay increase achieved by sworn officers during arbitration. Seven percent of police staff positions will disappear, and an even greater percentage of services will disappear.


Fair Work Australia terminates industrial action at Qantas

In the small hours this morning Fair Work Australia cancelled all industrial action - that is the unprecedented action of Qantas and the action of the three unions seeking to bargain with the airline. In its decision Fair Work Australia noted that it was Qantas' actions in grounding the airline that would cause significant harm to the Australian economy.


Transport and Main Roads workers in arbitration

In a conciliation conference on 26 October 2011 the Industrial Relations Commission recommended that the wage rates for all employees to be covered by the proposed collective agreement with TMR be aligned with the rates of pay from the Core Public Agreement as of 1 August 2011, with an operative date of 1 July 2011.

No doubt you will have seen today's media coverage of the decision by the QPS to slash jobs in order to pay for the police officers' pay rise. Many of you will also have been informed at work today of the estimated 250 staff members' jobs that have to go.
