NPRSR Update - Job Cuts Announcement Today

Posted by Alex Scott on August 31, 2012

As recently as last week the Director-General John Glaister stated in meetings with our Together Delegates that no announcement would be made regarding the Government's intention of cutting from NPRSR until after the budget of September 11 or unless the Minister decided otherwise. It is  obvious through the Director-General's announcement of cuts of 130 FTE's today that the government's poor handling, lack of direction and panicked decision making continues. No matter what rushed and ideological driven decisions the government makes, the fight for employment security for public servants continues.

Despite commitments given by the Director-General recently that all school staff were frontline, as should absolutely be the case,  it appears that there isn't a commitment given under this new Government that can?t be broken.

There have been more meetings with the Public Service Commission and hearings in front of the Industrial Commission this week about your agreement. Tomorrow, that is, Friday the 31st of August, we have another conciliation conference scheduled to go over once again our key issues in dispute – job security, wages, consultation – just to name a few. Thank you to the thousands of members who voted in the poll on wages – this has informed your Steering Committee delegates on the best strategy for our wages claim at this moment in our conciliation.
