Together welcomes Redcliffe by-election announcement

Together welcomes the Queensland Government’s Redcliffe by-election announcement.

“The Redcliffe by-election will be an opportunity for local people to have a say about the mismanagement of our health system and privatisation,” Together Secretary Alex Scott said today.

Queensland’s Redcliffe electorate includes the communities of Clontarf, Kippa Ring, Margate, Moreton Island, Newport, Redcliffe, Scarborough and Woody Point.

The Redcliffe electorate is part of the Metro North Hospital and Health Services District which includes Redcliffe Hospital.

There are reports the state government earlier confirmed 1000 full time workers’ jobs at Health were axed across the Redcliffe region and surrounds (source: Queensland Nurses’ Union) although the actual number of health workers who lost their jobs across the region could be higher.

Privatisation has been foreshadowed across an array of public services while members are concerned the across-workforce consultation leaves a lot to be desired, among other matters.

It’s a matter of public record that Together opposes job cutting, services cutting and ideological privatisation of public services.
