Reachtel poll shows continued collapse of support for LNP

Posted June 19, 2014 by Together Queensland

Together Secretary Alex Scott says a new poll conducted by Reachtel two days ago has shown a continuation of the collapse of support for the LNP government as they lurch from self-imposed crisis to self-imposed crisis.

Mr Scott said today, “This government is clearly out of touch, they continually tell the community that they are listening, they continually tell the community that they are responsive but time and time again they are ignoring the wishes of community.

“What we know is that the community has an expectation that an appointment of judges will be done on the basis of merit not on the basis of mateship and the community is rejecting what the Premier is saying.

“He is saying average Queenslanders support his choice in relation to the chief justice and support the process used.

“We need to be making sure that the community has confidence in its judiciary and the only way that the community will continue to have confidence in our judges is if they are not appointed by politicians who are using our appointment processes to make political points and for game playing.

“This week’s poll clearly indicates the government can direct its ministers what to say but can’t direct the community what to think.

“The community is clear in its statement that they do not believe that the Attorney General has handled this process appropriately and they do not believe he is doing an excellent job no matter how many ministers say otherwise.

(There is)…”also a significant reduction in the LNP vote since the earlier poll we did in April which showed based on the regional variations that there would be enough for a change of government.”

Reachtel conducted a survey of 2129 voters on the night of Tuesday June 17, 2014, please refer to the Reachtel

website for the results.
