Health: Award Modernisation Update
On 1 March 2017, to coincide with the introduction of the new Industrial Relations Act 2016, the three modern health awards have been re-issued and these three awards now apply to health workers.
The modern award for HPs and DOs – the Health Practitioners and Dental Officers (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015 – has had minor amendments made. Importantly, the Award has been amended to make sure that there must be UNION agreement (ie. a vote of members in the area) to any proposal to introduce shift work and also any changes to a shift-work roster. This means HP and DO workers have the same rights as AO, OO, TO and PO members to make sure there is union agreement.
The modern award for AO, OO, TO, and PO members – the Hospital and Health Service General Employees (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015 – was made on 1 March and applies from that day. This modern award was developed last year but has not applied before. This award is intended to provide the same entitlements and conditions as the pre-modernised award in a new format consistent with the other modern awards.
The modern award for doctors – the Medical Officers (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015 – has been in place since the certification of MOCA4 and continues to apply with only minor amendments.
